About Us

From a Garage to a Workshop

Nutmeg Table Company began in Steve’s garage. What started as a personal love for working with wood quickly became something more — a response to what the furniture industry had become. Flimsy construction. Engineered materials. Pieces built to be replaced. So he built something different.

What began as a few tables for friends and family grew into a dedicated workshop and small team in Waterbury, Connecticut. Today, every piece is still built here — from the first cut of lumber to the final coat of finish. No outsourcing. No shortcuts. Just real materials and hands-on care.

Our Craft

We take a collaborative, made-to-order approach to every project. From shop drawings to finish samples, each piece is built with intention and care.

Our team is intentionally small, and our process is fully in-house. Every piece passes through our hands from start to finish — because that’s the only way to ensure it meets our standards before it leaves the shop. Built to order. Tailored to your space.

Who We Build For

We build for people who care about quality — homeowners, designers, and builders alike. Whether the project is big or small, we approach it the same way: with respect for the materials, pride in the craft, and a belief that furniture should bring people together.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud of how far we’ve come — from a one-person garage shop to a growing Connecticut workshop — but our approach remains the same.

As we continue to grow, we’ll stay committed to quality over speed, long-term relationships over volume, and furniture meant to be gathered around for generations.

Why Solid Wood?

We build exclusively from solid American hardwoods. No veneers. No particle board.

Solid wood moves with the seasons, carries natural variation, and gains character over time. We design our pieces to work with that movement — so they can be used, lived with, and passed down.
