The LUCA kitchen island is a hardworking prep station designed for style, storage, and durability. Built to order in our CT workshop, this compact island features a 3-inch thick end-grain walnut butcher block top—prized for its self-healing surface and long-lasting strength.

The painted solid wood base (customizable in any color) supports a lower slatted walnut shelf for open storage. A dovetailed drawer offers functional storage, perfect for keeping utensils or prep tools close at hand.

Each LUCA island is finished with our in-house blend of food-safe mineral oil and beeswax, which we include with your order to help maintain and protect the walnut over time.

FAQ

What wood options are available for your butcher block tops?

We offer two wood choices: sugar maple and walnut. Sugar maple is our standard option, valued for its durability, resistance to scratches, and low-maintenance care. Walnut provides the same functionality with a warm, rich brown color and natural antimicrobial properties. If you’re interested in walnut, please contact us for pricing, as it’s offered at a different rate.

Can I choose the grain style of the butcher block?

Yes! We offer both edge grain and end grain options. Edge grain has a sleek, uniform look, while end grain features a distinctive checkered pattern. Both styles are gentle on knives and help minimize visible wear. If you’d like to explore either option further, feel free to reach out.

Shipping & Handling

Clients in most of New England and the NY Metro area will receive white glove delivery.

For clients outside our white glove delivery region, delivery is arranged by appointment in one of two ways:

Shipper-Assisted Delivery: Your item will be carefully wrapped and delivered without the need for a pallet, reducing pallet waste. The shipper will assist in bringing the item into your home, though additional help may be needed depending on its size and weight.
Freight Pallet Delivery: If shipper-assisted delivery is unavailable, your item will be flat-packed on a freight pallet and delivered curbside or to your driveway. You’ll need help unpacking and moving the piece inside, as freight drivers cannot assist with unpacking or placement.

We charge a flat-rate shipping fee for most areas, applied at checkout. If you have any questions about delivery logistics or costs, please reach out!

Details

Each piece is made to order in our Connecticut workshop. Measurements are approximate, and slight variations may occur, reflecting the unique nature of handcrafted furniture. Natural wood expands and contracts with the seasons. Due to the handcrafted process, butcher block thickness may vary by approximately ±¹⁄₁₆ inch from sanding and finishing.
